CDTC is hosting the Continental Divide Trail Gateway Community Summit throughout the month of November! Gateway Community and Trail Town members, volunteers, tourism professionals, and members of federal agencies will enjoy the opportunity to learn about how communities along the Divide are contributing to stewardship of the Continental Divide Trail! Attendance is FREE and you are encouraged to participate in as many sessions as possible, but you do not need to attend every session of the summit. GARNA Hosts the Colorado Environmental Film Festival on December 1 The Greater Arkansas River Nature Association (GARNA) is bringing selections from the Colorado Environmental Film Festival to Salida on December 1 at A Church for an evening of films to challenge and inspire us to take care of our environment. Film selections include “Farm to Faucet,” a look at the value of water in Colorado and our society’s willingness to adapt; “The Sea Turtle Arribada” how a group of dedicated people in Oaxaca, Mexico are protecting an endangered species; and “Yellowstone 88: Song of Fire,” an animated short about the fires in Yellowstone in 1988. Prior to the films, GARNA will be hosting a social hour with free pizza and beer for members and friends to meet new GARNA Executive Director, Jason Marsden, and learn about upcoming programs. Skiers, splitboarders, hikers, cross country skiers, snowshoers, and snowmobilers join us at Salida Mountain Sports for a FREE, informative Avalanche Awareness Know Before You Go presentation presented by Buena Vista Mountain Adventures (BVMA). In 1-hour, you will see the destructive power of avalanches, understand when and why they happen, and how you can have fun in the mountains and avoid avalanches. There will be 30 mins for questions at the end. This conversation is a great place to start your avalanche education.

The Noteables will present their winter concert series, The Winter Gift, December 8-10 in Salida and Buena Vista. Under the direction of Linda Taylor, the chorus will perform a wide variety of holiday music, including unusual arrangements of familiar carols, winter ballads, humorous selections and songs of peace and hope. The Noteables, will welcome in the holiday season with We Three Kings, Ella Fitzgerald’s Hotta Chocolatta and A Celtic French Carol. Other selections include a powerful arrangement of the hymn, See Amid the Winter’s Snow, the familiar, Deck the Halls and Winter Wolf which follows the challenges of the lone wolf through the change of seasons. Continuing onto the second half of the program The Noteables will perform an unusual version of Angels We Have Heard On High, An Advent Yearning and The Winter Gift, a heartwarming song that celebrates winter treasures: time for silence and reflection, time for peace, hope and joy. Rounding out the program, a twelve voice ensemble will sing the fanciful A Star Dances, A Child Sings and Bruce Warren will perform four holiday songs on hammered dulcimer. The concert will feature guest instrumentalists: Oso Blanco, drums; Kathryn Wadsworth, trumpet; Kate Chiras, electric bass; Brenda Covert, flute; Bruce Warren, hammered dulcimer. The Candy Cane Cordial is our annual fundraiser for the Ryan Hansen Memorial Scholarship Fund. This fund allows people of all ages and backgrounds access to the performing arts within Chaffee County. The Ryan Hansen Memorial Scholarship Fund has already assisted over 50 individuals and families with scholarships since its creation, and we hope to grow that number every year!
