AIARE 1 is a three-day / 24-hour introduction to avalanche hazard management. Students can expect to develop a good grounding in how to prepare for and carry out a backcountry trip, to understand basic decision making while in the field, and to learn rescue techniques required to find and dig up a buried person (if an avalanche occurs and someone in the party is caught). This course is in partnership with Salida Parks & Rec and anyone that signs up for the course with a Chaffee County address will receive a discount when checking out. .

We are so excited to offer a Spring Break Camp in March and a variety of Farmhands Summer Programs from the end of May through mid-August at the Hutchinson Homestead & Learning Center and Hutchinson Ranch, Longfellow Elementary and Salida Middle School Gardens, and the Community & School Farm! Our garden and homestead programs allow youth to ‘dig in’ and learn how to grow their own food, participate in farm and ranch life, interact with farm
