Emergency Preparedness & Go-Kit Distribution
Emergency Preparedness & Go-Kit Distribution
Chaffee County Public Health Presents Emergency Preparedness & Go-Kit Distribution at The Buena Vista Library July 9th, 2024. Chaffee County, CO- Chaffee County Public Health (CCPH) is excited to announce that due to high demand and sold out events in March and May, CCPH will be presenting a workshop on emergency preparedness and go- kit distribution open to all ages at the Buena Vista Public Library on July 9th from 12:00PM-1:00PM. The workshop will be presented by CCPH Emergency Preparedness and Response Coordinator, Sophia Gibb, and CCPH Director, Andrea Carlstrom. The go-kits include essential items and necessary supplies that you can easily grab during an emergency. Supplies include: flashlights, water bottles, and first aid kits. Recipients would put all supplies in a backpack or “Go-Bag” to easily grab in case of an emergency like a wildfire. There will also be information presented on evacuation checklists, insurance coverage, preparing pets for disaster, and much more. “Chaffee County Public Health is excited to be able to offer this presentation again, due to the high demand we had for both presentations. We are also excited to be heading to the north end of the county. It is crucial that every household has a go-kit ready in case of emergency. We hope that all Chaffee County residents who are interested in what to do and what to bring during an emergency will register to attend. Free go-kits will be available for those who register for the event,” says Sophia Gibb, CCPH Emergency Preparedness and Response Coordinator. For more information and to reserve your spot at the Emergency Preparedness Workshop and Go-Kit Distribution, please contact Sophia Gibb at sgibb@chaffeecounty.org or 719-207-6563. Space is limited to the first 40 people.

28th Annual Brewers Rendezvous!
21+ event Purchase tickets HERE Brought to you by the Colorado Brewers Guild (CBG) and the Salida Chamber of Commerce, the 28th Annual Colorado Brewers Rendezvous will take place on Saturday, July 13th, in historic Salida, CO, against a backdrop of beautiful views of the Collegiate Peaks and the Arkansas River. Rooted in camaraderie and tradition, the Colorado Brewers Rendezvous is unlike any other craft beer fest stemming from the Colorado Brewers Guild’s desire to find a place for brewers to gather and conduct their annual meeting. Because many brewers were already attending the Salida Beer Festival in 1995, Salida became the impromptu meeting grounds for their membership meeting. Since then, the Brewers Rendezvous has been a cherished craft beer festival and fundraiser for both the CBG and Salida Chamber of Commerce for 28 years. A list of participating breweries can be found HERE. Photos of previous years’ festivals can be downloaded HERE. For more information about the Brewers Rendezvous, please contact info@salidachamber.org. To apply for media credentials, please contact Chea Franz at chea@indiecreativeco.com. Are you a local? Stop by the Salida Chamber of Commerce to get special local pricing for Brewers Rendezvous. A limited number of Locals Only tickets are available for purchase in person only at the Salida Chamber (406 W. Rainbow Blvd.). Limit 2 per household. Proof of residency required. Cash or check only (please bring the exact amount in case we do not have change). Must be 21+ to purchase. Local tickets will be available for $45 beginning at 9am on May 1, 2024.

Documentary Featuring Pueblo Farmers Explores Threat to Water, Land, and Livelihood: MIRASOL, Looking at the Sun
Documentary Featuring Pueblo Farmers Explores Threat to Water, Land, and Livelihood: MIRASOL, Looking at the Sun
(Pueblo, CO – June 18, 2024) – MIRASOL, Looking at the Sun, a documentary produced by Palmer Land Conservancy, a Colorado land and water conservation champion, featuring the Pueblo agricultural community, makes its debut in Salida, in conjunction with our friends at Guidestone Colorado and Central Colorado Conservancy, on Thurs., July 18, at the SteamPlant Event Center. For tickets and information on the film, visit MirasolFilm.com. MIRASOL highlights water as a finite resource — and an essential one. For farmers, it’s everything. Award-winning director Ben Knight explores a national issue, magnified in the American West, around water scarcity, following a multi-generational Italian and Hispanic farming community living on “The Mesa” in Pueblo, Colorado. Shedding light on their history and heritage, each family shares their agricultural lineage, one that transcends every aspect of their lives, shaping their culture and livelihood. Realizing an uncertain future due the West’s diminishing water supply, Williams Family Farm and Seed Store, Musso Farms, Professor Mike Bartolo and Martellaro Family Farms reflect on their passion to grow and nourish their families, communities and pastime. Through these voices, the film offers a story about the deep connection and love of the land, family, and the famed Pueblo Chile. View the trailer HERE. Visit the film website: mirasolfilm.com Download film images HERE. Nationally, we are losing 2,000 acres of land each day. The film explores how rural agricultural communities, and the food they put on our tables, is threatened by rapid development, population growth, climate change, and competing economies. MIRASOL challenges us to consider what’s at stake and whether we are willing to take action to protect it. Filmmaker Ben Knight has built a career telling compelling, wide-reaching stories with compassion and artistry. His documentaries, produced for renowned brands such as Patagonia, National Geographic, and The North Face, have been showcased at film festivals and to audiences around the world. His notable works include Red Gold (2008), DamNation (2014), The Last Honey Hunter (2018), and Learning to Drown (2021). Knight masterfully intertwines emotional human narratives while showcasing the grandeur of the natural world, and has a unique ability to bring significant environmental and cultural stories to the forefront. MIRASOL had its World Premiere at the renowned Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in Missoula, Montana in February 2024 and was a finalist in the prestigious competition for the Big Sky Award. The film screened as part of the Changemakers Program at the 5Point Film Festival in Carbondale in April and screened twice during the MountainFilm Festival in Telluride over Memorial Day Week. It is slated to screen at the Crested Butte Film Festival Sept. 18-22. Palmer, in conjunction with our friends at Guidestone Colorado and Central Colorado Conservancy, is set to premiere MIRASOL in Salida on Thurs., July 18, 5:30 p.m., and Denver on Wed., Sept. 18. Other community screenings and events can be found at: MIRASOLFILM.com. One of the most pressing issues of our time in the American West is the dwindling water supply from the Colorado River, which is a lifeline for 40 million people and the $15 million a year agriculture industry that depends on it. Analysts say the river is in peril and climate change, resulting in rising temperatures, low snowpack and drought, has put us in crisis. The impact moves far beyond the Colorado River Basin as 70 percent of ...

Ark-Valley Humane Society offers Free Community Microchip and Pet ID Tag Clinic!
Ark-Valley Humane Society offers Free Community Microchip and Pet ID Tag Clinic!
Ark-Valley Humane Society is excited to announce its first ever Free Community Microchip and Pet ID Tag Clinic! AVHS will be inviting the public to the shelter on Sunday, July 21st, from 12-3PM for free microchips and pet ID tags. In 2023 Ark-Valley Humane Society helped reunite 185 lost animals with their families. Pets who came in with up-to-date ID tags and/or microchips were able to go home sooner. One of the first things AVHS staff is trained to do when a lost animal arrives at the shelter is check for ID tags and scan for a microchip. “We hope by offering this clinic even more pets will have up-to-date tags and microchips so that lost pets can be quickly reunited with their loving families,” said AVHS Executive Director, Nikki Ritter. AVHS asks that you bring cats in a carrier and your dogs on a leash. When you first arrive please leave your pets in the car and check in at the outdoor table near the front door so that staff may instruct you where to go from there. There will be an outdoor area with water bowls for friendly dogs. For questions, please contact Emy Nettleblad at enettleblad@ark-valley.org.
