The park will open up at 12 noon with performances all day. Salida Circus performs at noon. Some entertainment spots during the day have not been confirmed yet. Salida’s own RokSkool formed Band - KneeOn (featuring Westcliffe’s KneeOn Sisters on vocals, guitar and bass, with Salida’s Alan Mueller on drums) will kick start the Live Music celebrations at 5-6:30pm at the Riverside Park. A Roots Rock band, they take stage with their energetic originals and diverse covers, you don’t want to miss! The headliners is "Vehicle" from Colorado Springs, playing 7-9:30 before the fireworks go off "S" Mtn at dusk (weather permitting.) They are a dance /party band guaranteed to get the crowd to dancing. The parade is at 4 pm. Participants line up at Alpine Park and march down to Riverside Park. The more the merrier, the more red, white and blue the better. There is no registration, announcer or trophies. There will be activities in the park all day along with food vendors.
The annual July 4th Kids Fishing Derby will be held at Frantz Lake. This free event, for kids 13 and younger, is sponsored by Trout Unlimited and Colorado Parks & Wildlife. Registration at Frantz Lake is from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Thursday the 4th, followed by fishing from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. All contestants will receive a derby T-shirt and special prizes will be awarded. Bring your own fishing gear, water, and sunscreen. At 11 a.m., a free hot dog lunch will be served to contestants and their families. More information at www.collegiatepeakstu.org.
