The Victoria Tavern Stompit Fri., Jan 11 at 9pm at the Vic $3 cover, Stompit is a 2 person band, comprised of the 2 founding members of The Symbols, with as much sound and as much pure rock’n’roll power as their 3 piece band with a drummer. This band arose out of pure necessity. Sometimes a drummer wasn’t available. Sometimes the pay was too low for a full band. Sometimes the stage too small. Stompit is a full sounding cool alternative that can work in gig situations not fit for a full band, but this unique format also translates well to larger venues. Click here to learn more.

GARNA “Metanoia” Celebrating the Life of Jeff Lowe
GARNA “Metanoia” Celebrating the Life of Jeff Lowe
Film Event: “Metanoia” Celebrating the Life of Jeff Lowe Friday, January 18 GARNA and Salida Mountain Sports, present the award-winning documentary film Metanoia featuring Jeff Lowe and his unparalleled solo climb of the north face of the Eiger, on Friday January 18 at A Church. From the top of the world to the end of the line, the film follows the extraordinary life and climbs of the legendary alpinist. Narrated by New York Times best-selling author Jon Krakauer, produced by Jeff Lowe’s partner, Connie Self, and directed by Jim Aikman. Metanoia is a story of a legendary athlete’s rise to the top of his sport and devastating fall from grace that precipitated perhaps the boldest solo mountain climb in history. Jeff embraced a debilitating disease with the same vision, courage and grace that he brought to his climbing, but passed away in August, 2018. Lowe helped make climbing what it is today through technical innovations and inspired teaching. With more than a thousand visionary first ascents, his mark on the industry will never be forgotten. Sponsored by Salida Mountain Sports, the event will take place at A Church, 419 D St. with doors opening at 6:00pm. A film short of the 1978 American ascent of Ama Dablan by Jeff Lowe, Tom Frost, and local climber and filmmaker, Rob Dubin will kick off the event at 6:30pm followed by a short intermission. The main feature, “Metanoia” will begin at 7:30pm, ending with a Q & A period with film producer Connie Self and Rob Dubin. Moonlight Pizza, Soulcraft beer and Vino Salida wines will be available for purchase. Raffle and drawing prizes will be given throughout the evening. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door and may be purchased in person at Salida Mountain Sports or through the GARNA website at: https://garna.org/calendar/metanoia-a-climbing-film-celebrating-the-life-of-jeff-lowe/. This event is handicap accessible and open to the public. If special assistance is required or for more information, please contact the GARNA office a few days in advance at 719-539-5106, Monday-Friday from 9am-4pm.

Community Awards
Community Awards
Our annual Salida Community Awards are coming up on Friday, January 25th from 6-9pm at the SteamPlant Event Center. The evening will include the ceremony recognizing outstanding citizens/businesses, heavy hors d' oeuvres, cash bar, and silent auction. Over the past several years, the silent auction has become a focal point for the Community Awards, affording the community a glance at great works, plus giving artists and shopkeepers exposure after the holiday season. This is a win-win for both the artist/business and the Chamber. If your item is purchased, you will receive the minimum bid amount. Anything above this will go to help further the Chambers work in the community. If you wish to donate your item (without a minimum bid-with all proceeds going to the chamber), please make a note of that on your entry form. To learn more, contact Shilo at the Chamber, 719.539.2068 or desk@salidachamber.org Tickets are available for $25 at the Salida Chamber, 406 W. Hwy 50.

Tony Furtado
Tony Furtado
Of the many great things to come our way again, Tony Furtado will be returning to the SteamPlant Theater Saturday, February 2nd. Traveling as a trio, Tony is joined by Clark Productions favorite touring bassist, Eric Thorin and drummer Carl Sorenson. Very few musicians of any stripe so personify a musical genre as completely as Tony Furtado embodies Americana roots music. Tony is an evocative and soulful singer, a wide-ranging songwriter and a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist adept on banjo, cello-banjo, slide guitar and baritone ukulele who mixes and matches sounds and styles with the flair of a master. A native of Californian who now makes his home in Portland, Oregon, Furtado took up the banjo at age 12, inspired by the Beverly Hillbillies. He won the National Bluegrass Banjo Championship twice, cut his teeth with Laurie Lewis & Grant Street, and signed a solo deal in 1990 with Rounder Records, resulting in six critically acclaimed albums for the label, collaborating with such master musicians as Alison Krauss, Jerry Douglas, Tim O’Brien, Kelly Joe Phelps, and Tony Trischka. Beginning in the late 1990s—influenced by musical heroes Ry Cooder, David Lindley and Taj Mahal—Tony added slide guitar, singing, and songwriting to his musical toolbox and began leading his own band. He especially values the opportunities he has had to tour with A-list artists Gregg Allman, David Lindley, Derek Trucks, Sonny Landreth, and the like. He has performed at such prestigious music festivals as Telluride Bluegrass, Thirsty Ear, High Sierra, Jazz Aspen, Kerrville, Strawberry, Winnipeg, Sisters and many others. His latest acclaimed release is Cider House Sessions. Relix hit the nail on the head when writing of Tony: “True talent doesn’t need categories.” Tickets available soon at the SteamPlant Box Office, the Salida Chamber of Commerce, Free the Monkey Salida, Sacred Ground Café and now online here. $16 adv $18 at the door. Thank you, our community for extending your hospitality and support, along with our fine friends at Colorado Central Magazine, Woods Distillery, Vino Salida and Soulcraft Beer. Presented by Clark Productions.
