Walden Chamber Music Society Presents Curtis to Colorado

Salida SteamPlant Theater 220 West Sackett Avenue, Salida, United States

Walden Chamber Music Society Presents: Curtis to Colorado, featuring Janice Carissa, pianist Friday, October 4, 2019, 7:00 pm at the Salida Steamplant On Friday, October 4, Walden Chamber Music Society will present pianist Janice Carissa at the Salida Steamplant. Ms Carissa will be performing works of Bach, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Brahms and Liszt. A native of Indonesia, pianist Janice Carissa entered the Curtis Institute of Music in 2013 and studied with Gary Graffman and Robert McDonald. All students at Curtis receive merit-based, full tuition scholarships. Ms. Carissa is a Gerry and Marguerite Lenfest Fellow. A recipient of numerous awards and honors, Ms. Carissa is a Young Scholar of Lang Lang’s International Music Foundation and the runner-up winner of the 2014 American Academy of Conducting at Aspen Music Festival and School. She was a Star Performer Award Winner of 2012 American Protégé International Music Talent Competition in New York and the Top Prize Winner of the IBLA Foundation’s 2006 International Piano Competition. In 2018, Janice attended Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute where she premiered Timo Andre’s Piano Trio. She performs this trio in a 2019 tour with Miriam Fried and colleagues of Ravinia. Recent career highlights include her solo debut with the New York’s Grammy award-winning Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and a recital tour to New Mexico, Arizona, California and New York. She has performed with numerous orchestras, including the prestigious Philadelphia Orchestra. More details are available on Janice’s Facebook page @Janice Carissa Piano. The Curtis Institute of Music educates and trains exceptionally gifted young musicians to engage a local and global community through the highest level of artistry. One of the most selective schools in the United States, Curtis accepts four percent of applicants each year on average, and a tuition-free policy ensures that talent and artistic promise are the only considerations for admission. With a small student body of about 175, Curtis ensures that each young musician receives an education of unparalleled quality, distinguished by a “learn by doing” philosophy and personalized attention from a faculty that includes a high proportion of actively performing musicians. Curtis students hone their craft through more than 200 orchestra, opera, solo and chamber music offerings each year and programs that bring arts access and education to the community. This real-world training allows these extraordinary young musicians to join the front rank of performers, composers, conductors, and musical leaders, making a profound impact on music onstage and in their communities. To learn more, visit Curtis.edu. The Walden Chamber Music Society is proud to announce that this concert is underwritten by Collegiate Peaks Bank and the HHSB Family Foundation.
