League of Women Voters to Host Buena Vista School Board Candidates

Learn more about this year’s school board candidates on Sunday, October 15th from 3 to 5 pm in the Pinon Room at the Buena Vista Community Center. The event will feature the eight candidates running for the five open seats on the board:  For District 1, incumbent Brett Mitchell and challenger John Casey Martin; District 3, Norman Nyberg; District 4, George Richardson; At Large four years, Mallory Brooks and Montana Brown; and At Large two years, Paula Dylan and Trinda Windle. This year's modified format will include introductory statements from each candidate, a lightning round of questions submitted by local media, questions from members of the audience present and on zoom, the traditional “Candidating,” and a closing followed by a “Meet & Greet.” During the lightning round each candidate will be asked the same question, rotating who goes first with each question. League of Women Voters To Feature County Commissioners March 2

Meet the Chaffee County Commissioners Thursday evening, March 2nd at the Buena Vista Community Center, 715 E. Main Street. The League of Women Voters will host a panel offering updates by the commissioners–Keith Baker, District 1; Greg Felt, District 2; and  P.T. Woods, District 3–and provide attendees an opportunity to meet both returning and new commissioners.  The commissioners will respond to questions submitted in advance to karendils@gmail.com The elected Commissioners administrative role is to manage the affairs of the county as authorized by state statute.  Powers granted to the Board of Commissioners by the State of Colorado are broad, which allow the board independence in judgment.  Each commissioner is responsible for specific areas of county management and will focus on those areas in the presentation. The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. with light refreshments; the panel will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.  For more information, go to lwvchafeecounty.org
