Ski with a Naturalist with GARNA at Monarch Mountain Join GARNA for a free naturalist tour every other Friday at 11am to learn about forest ecology, wildlife in the winter, the history of recreation on Monarch Pass and the partnership of the USFS and Monarch. A guest volunteer interpreter leads the tour, sharing additional information from their area of expertise.  The tour is free, a valid lift ticket/pass is required.  Dates: February 2, 16, March 1, 15 Have you ever wondered… Who owns the land we’re skiing/boarding on? When did Monarch open and what is the oldest run? How can animals thrive in this winter environment? What kinds of trees live up here? What is causing many of the trees to die? How can you tell when avalanches are more likely to occur? What are the names of some of the surrounding peaks? How is Monarch different from other Colorado ski areas? Join a Volunteer Interpreter for a fun, free on-mountain educational tour. Learn about the history of recreation on Monarch Pass, the ski area-USFS partnership, forest ecology, wildlife in the winter, and more. Meet Friday, February 2, 2024 at 11:00 am at the sign near the Cat Skiing Yurt across from the Pioneer lift. Guests of all ages and abilities are welcome. The tour is free, follows all beginner runs and lasts for about an hour. A lift ticket or season pass is required. No need to register in advance, but you can you email CDT Salida Ambassador Justice Wise at jwiseabq@gmail.com if you plan on coming. We look forward to seeing you on the slopes!
