The February 12th meeting of the League of Women Voters of Chaffee County (LWVCC) will host a panel of the county’s housing decision makers to discuss options and upcoming opportunities in affordable housing.

Panel members will include Ashley Kappel, Executive Director, Chaffee Housing Authority; Joel Benson, Buena Vista Town Planning and Zoning Director; and Bill Almquist, Salida Community Development Director.

LWVCC members and the public will ask the panel questions pertaining to the status of new developments and future plans for the county and its towns; solutions to the ongoing affordable housing shortages in the county; and how these planners balance housing needs with other priorities such as water supply.

Kate Shea, LWVCC Treasurer and the program’s planner, noted “Affordable and attainable housing is one of the biggest challenges Chaffee County faces.  What is this community doing to address this challenge?  What programs offer the most promise to move the needle in a meaningful way?”

The program will be held Monday, February 12th from noon to 1 p.m. at the Sangre de Cristo Community Room, 29780 U,S Highway 24 in Buena Vista. The LWVCC monthly meeting and social will precede the presentation at 11:10 a.m.
