Mountain Spirit Winery opened in 1995 and was/is a family-owned and operated boutique winery nestled in the high country of the Upper Arkansas River Valley. We produce premium wines on five acres of farmland with apple orchards and an old homestead, surrounded by 14,000-foot mountain vistas.
Former owners Terry and Michael Barkett, wine-maker and son-in-law Andrew Ritchie brought educational backgrounds of clinical medicine, computer science, laboratory technology and culinary expertise to Mountain Spirit’s wine-making. This winery answered the question: “Everyone has a Merlot and Chardonnay. Do you have anything different to offer?” They continued to explore new blends of wines while maintaining high standards inherent to the gentle art of wine-making, which gives rise to the motto:
“Quality wines with a difference.”
New owner Chanda Reyes comes with a vast experience of business management, in addition to being a long-term customer. She is thrilled to continue the tradition of blending wines and maintaining the quality wines we all love. Learning directly from the previous owners this art of wine making will continue.
