My fondness for animals goes back to childhood. Then, after graduating from UC/Davis with a degree in zoology, I became a certified Animal Health Technician and began working at a mobile vet clinic. While living in the Santa Rosa, Calif., area, I became associated with Canine Companions for Independence (CCI), an organization that trains dogs for people with disabilities. After moving to Salida in 1995, I began volunteering as a 4H dog project leader, then started a small dog- training business.
Ideally, a dog-training class has five or less in attendance. Dog owners soon realize the importance of being consistent, calm and to always follow through, with particular emphasis on problem solving and tools to teach behaviors. The primary goal is for the dog to be successfully integrated into its family with healthy exercise, proper discipline and deserved affection.
