Four Mile Historic Park has announced “Family Fun Free Day” – a special event that will celebrate Indigenous culture on Friday, May 24, 2024 at the 12-acre historic park in the city. The full-day event promises an exhilarating celebration of community and Native American heritage, featuring Indigenous vendors, activities, education centers, and several performances from Rocky Mountain Indigenous Dancers. Tocabe: An American Indian Eatery will be on-site, serving their delicious Indian tacos and other Native American cuisine. As the title suggests, Family Fun Free Day is a free event (and open to the public) through the generous support of several sponsors. Participating groups of this special day will include Denver Indian Center, Native American Bank, Colorado Native, Earth Lacrosse, A-Paws Nation, Southdown Indian Mountain Healing, Colorado Native Outreach Project, Blue Sky Wealth Group, Spirit of the Sun, Rocky Mountain Indian Chamber of Commerce, and Rocky Mountain Indigenous Dancers. Museum Open House The Salida Museum will be presenting our 2024 Open House on Saturday, May 25, from 10am. to 4pm. Admission will be free and refreshments will be served.  Of course, all the exhibits will be available for your inspection. Steve Chapman, local Salida historian, will be giving presentations on Salida history at 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm.  Steve is a lively speaker, and his knowledge of Salida history is extensive.  Don't miss this chance to hear him. To all of you who attend museum functions or in other ways benefit the museum, we thank you for your continued support.  Special thanks goes to the volunteer docents who keep the museum open for visitors.

Dance for PD- Free dance classes for those living with Parkinson's or other neurodegenerative disorders.

A weekly group for parents or caregivers of young children. Offering a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space to gather with a professional and other parents. This group will provide empathy, information and resources and practical help to parents as they navigate the challenges of raising small children. FREE CHILDCARE and light snacks will be provided. The Chaffee County “We Are Chaffee” storytelling initiative has been developing a community-focused documentary for the past year and is hosting two film premieres and several free showings throughout the county this summer and fall. Watch the trailer here. The second premiere date is Wednesday, June 5th at the Salida SteamPlant and will be a free community event with only registration required. After the movie showing, We Are Chaffee will host a complimentary dinner and facilitated community discussion.
