Chaffee County Recreation Adopters- Fourmile Creek Restoration Project

October 9-10, 26-27 – 8:30am - 2pm Join the Chaffee Rec Adopters, Envision Chaffee County and EcoMetrics on four dates in October to help restore the wetlands in Fourmile Creek! Fourmile Creek currently supports just a fraction of its habitat potential because the water is channelized into the creek bed. This project will create conditions that could bring back the wetlands that are vital for many local wildlife species - including beavers. Volunteers will be working in and around the creek. Wear long sleeves and pants as well as sturdy shoes that can get wet. Waders are a great choice for building structures in the creek on Day 2. Bring eye protection, gloves, lunch & water for the day.  (GARNA has Bogs to loan out - reach out to Jessica!) The creek is accessed by a 4WD, rough road. We will meet at the County Road 375 staging area at 8:30am then carpool to the site. The plan is to be done around 2pm. RSVP below so we can communicate important updates and arrange carpooling. Sign up here! Meeting Place: CR 375 and carpool to site location Please sign this waiver: https://envisionchaffeecounty.org/rec-adopter/waiver/ (Waivers need to be signed once a year. If you have already signed the waiver at another event or as a Rec Adopter, you don't need to sign again) About the Chaffee Rec Adopters:  Chaffee Rec Adopters are residents and friends of Chaffee County that help keep our beautiful outdoors clean, fun and wild, now into the future. Free Screenings of Bode Miller’s documentary, The Paradise Paradox

Salida SteamPlant

In an effort to reduce stigma and foster open dialogue about mental health, Chaffee County Public Health (CCPH) is proud to present free screenings of Bode Miller’s documentary, The Paradise Paradox. This powerful film sheds light on the mental health crisis facing America’s mountain towns, showcasing innovative solutions that empower communities to seek help and develop effective coping strategies. Join us for this important conversation! Following the film, CCPH will host a dynamic panel discussion featuring local mental health experts, community leaders, and representatives from the ski industry. This is an excellent opportunity to delve deeper into the film’s themes, engage in meaningful discussions, and explore the innovative initiatives being implemented in our own communities. We encourage everyone to participate and share their insights as we work together to break down barriers and foster mental well-being. This timely initiative is supported by the El Pomar Foundation which is prioritizing supporting solutions to the mental health crisis that our society is facing today, especially with youth.  “We are honored that the El Pomar Foundation is helping CCPH to bring this important film about mental health in resort communities, along with local conversations, to Chaffee County.  This is a topic that effects everyone, and we hope that the public takes time out of their busy schedules to attend one of these film events and contributes to the dialogue around how to make Chaffee County strong and resilient,” said Kirsten Love, CCPH Behavioral Health Coordinator/Navigator. CCPH identified mental health as a topic priority in its 2021 Community Health Assessment and 2022-2026 Community Health Improvement Plan.  For almost a decade, CCPH has been collaborating with community partners and stakeholders to ensure a robust local mental health system and the need has only grown in recent years. You can join CCPH in one of the following: Cost: Free + Free popcorn!

Guidestone’s Pumpkin Patch at the Hutchinson Ranch

Hutchinson Ranch

This year’s annual Pumpkin Patch is sure to be abundant family fun! The wagon rides to the pumpkin patch, the live music, the cider and the crafts… a great time was had by all! FUN FACT: Over 1300 pumpkins were ‘picked’ at last year’s event – most of which were given away for free with each child’s ticket. Many of these were grown in Salida at Guidestone’s Community & School Farm! Guidestone would like to give a special shout out to the Hutchinson Ranch and Hutchinson Family, for their generosity in opening up their ranch to the public for this event. In partnership with Guidestone, the Pumpkin Patch is a unique opportunity for the community to get out and experience a beautiful, preserved, 7th-generation working ranch. Thanks to their vision, the entire Hutchinson Ranch has been placed in a conservation easement, protecting it as open space and agricultural land in perpetuity. Guidestone could not host the Pumpkin Patch without their support, and we are truly grateful.
