Rec Taskforce to discuss public lands management for the coming summer season
Envision Chaffee County invites the public to attend the next Chaffee Recreation Taskforce meeting to join a discussion about public lands management for the coming tourism season. The online meeting takes place Tuesday, April 1, from 3-4:30 p.m. Contact info@envisionchaffeecounty.org to get attendance information. Meeting bi-monthly and open to the public, the task force connects diverse stakeholders to work together under the Chaffee County Outdoor Recreation Management Plan to manage visitation for a healthy environment, excellent experiences and local economic benefit. The meeting will address heightened concern about how federal staffing cuts might impact local public lands. Federal agencies manage about 80 percent of the lands in Chaffee County, which are vital to quality of life and the local economy as they are the place to go for hiking, biking, wildlife watching and many other outdoor activities. Taskforce meeting participants will learn about developing federal agency needs, potential funding gaps and coming volunteer opportunities.

Parent Awareness Training on Child Predators and Human Trafficking
In 2024, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received over one half million reports of online enticement, a 300% increase over 2023. This can include explicit images of minors, and sextortion, which can lead to cyber bullying and child sex trafficking. “It can occur anywhere,” said noted author and anti-human trafficking advocate John DiGirolamo. “No state, no town, no neighborhood can be considered protected against or safe from predators of children.” DiGirolamo will be the featured speaker at “Inside the Mind of a Predator,” a parent awareness training at the Buena Vista High School on Thursday, April 3rd, at 6 pm in the BVHS Flex Classroom. Sponsored by Bringing Our Valley Hope (BVHope), an anti-human trafficking organization in Colorado’s central valley, the presentation will include real examples of predator tactics used to exploit children; tips to keep children safe online, particularly with social media; sextortion and human trafficking fed by pornography; how persons become trapped and can’t leave; and the myths vs. the facts.
