This is one of Salida's biggest and most celebratory nights each year. Automotive manufacturers establish guidelines for dealerships to be eligible to sell Electric Vehicles, including the installation of charging stations that contribute to a nationwide network that reduces “range anxiety” for prospective customers – one of the biggest challenges facing greater EV adoption, particularly in rural areas. By leveraging grants from the Colorado Energy Office as part of their Charge Ahead Colorado initiative as well as the EV Supply Infrastructure Plan from Xcel Energy, The Faricy Boys were able to develop a comprehensive EV charging installation plan that brings industry-leading charging equipment to the Salida area, including: A dual-port 140kW Level 3 DC Fast Charger (DCFC) located on Highway 50 and available to the public A dual-port 240kW Level 3 DCFC that allows the dealership to charge its fleet & service customers rapidly 4 dual-port 19.2kW Level 2 chargers (2 customer-facing chargers located on either side of the dealership and 2 for internal use). To offset the increased electricity usage, the dealership also invested in a rooftop solar array capable of producing nearly 350,000 kWh annually. The dealership earned a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development under its Rural Energy for America Plan (REAP) to offset the cost of this solar installation. “After two years of planning, we are pleased to be able to offer advanced charging technology to EV owners in Salida as well as travelers between the Western Slope and the Front Range. While we understand EVs are not for everyone, we are enthusiastic about the increased interest in EVs in Salida over the last 12-months,” states Ben Faricy, President, The Faricy Boys. “Several members of our staff drive EVs personally, and we are committed to being a trusted resource for education and expertise for those considering whether a gas, diesel, hybrid or full EV is right for them.” The Faricy Boys EV initiatives are fueled by partnerships with the Colorado Energy Office, U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development, Xcel Energy, iPOWER Alliance, Spear Commercial, Autel, Sturgeon Electric, EV Connect, Drive Clean Colorado, and Clean the Air Foundation. These projects are part of a larger initiative by The Faricy Boys. Throughout their stores in Southern Colorado, The Faricy Boys have made similar investments in EV infrastructure, Solar, energy efficient LED lighting & HVAC solutions over the last 2 years. On Friday, Nov. 29, from 3-6pm, The Faricy Boys will be hosting an EV open house, offering education, information and EV test drives to the community. About The Faricy Boys Automotive The Faricy Boys Automotive is a family-owned, Colorado-based automotive dealership group established in 1942 representing the Ford, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram, Chevrolet & GMC brands with locations in Salida, Canon City and Colorado Springs. Salida’s new bike skills park opens! Public is invited to grand opening and first ride event!
Salida’s new bike skills park opens! Public is invited to grand opening and first ride event!
A new bike skills park in Salida will open to the public on Friday, December 6 providing riders of all ages and abilities with a unique opportunity to develop their skills and have fun on Salida’s trails. The public is invited to attend a grand opening and first-ride event on 12/6 at 1:00pm at the F Street Trailhead (right across from the parking lot). Bring your friends and families, and join us to ride Salida’s newest trails! Salida Mountain Trails (SMT) and Salida Parks and Recreation are partnering to develop the skills park as the keystone of the iconic Arkansas Hills Trail System, which sees more than 250,000 visitors per year. The park’s goal is to improve trail access and provide a gateway to mountain biking by supporting progressive skill development, primarily among kids and beginners. “Salida has an expansive trail network, but we’ve historically lacked opportunities geared specifically toward children and beginners,” said Salida Mountain Trails Executive Director Jon Terbush. “The skills park will fill that gap, providing a dedicated place to develop skills and gain confidence on a bike, and thereby empowering more people to enjoy Salida’s incredible trails.” Friday’s event will commemorate completion of the first phase of the skills park, which features two downhill trails: a beginner (green) and intermediate (blue) line. Additionally, Phase 1 made improvements to the surrounding area, including a reroute of the fall-line trail up Frontside, and realignment of the bottom section of Sand Dunes. With those updates, there is now a nice beginner-friendly loop around the skills park as well. "This is a great addition to our trail system that has seen increasing users over the years,” said City of Salida Parks, Trails and Open Space Supervisor Zach Ryerson. “This was a unique partnership between private contractor Tony Boone, Salida Mountain Trails and City of Salida staff. It was great to work with them all, and I'm excited for the next steps. Building this for the community has been the highlight for the City Parks staff this year. Thanks to everybody who helped out and donated!" Tony Boone, a renowned trailbuilder and Salida resident, built Phase 1 with support from SMT and Parks and Rec staff. “It has been a true pleasure working with the City of Salida crew and Cat with SMT in my home town. We are so lucky to live and play here!,” said Boone. “Now we have a solid start on our skills park and can hopefully use this momentum to support more advanced lines and ultimately an asphalt pump track on the site. Time to think and plan bigger and start writing grants.” A second phase is planned for 2025 to improve trailhead amenities, build an advanced line tailored to more experienced riders, and more. SMT is now fundraising toward Phase 2. To support the project and help us complete a stellar skills park in Salida, visit salidamountaintrails.org “The community has wanted a skills park like this for a long time, and they stepped up in a big way to help us get it started,” said Terbush. “Donors have given more than $45,000 toward the project in just a few months, allowing us to open the first features this year and putting us well on our way to building out the rest of the park.” SMT ...

NYE Celebration in Downtown Salida
NYE Celebration in Downtown Salida
Get ready for a unique and unforgettable way to ring in the New Year in Salida! On December 31st, the City of Salida and High Country Bank are teaming up to bring you a heartwarming NYE celebration. The highlight of the evening will be the drop of a giant, lighted heart (approximately 8 feet tall!) from the Salida Fire Department’s ladder truck, raised up over 50 feet in the air. This special moment will mark the arrival of the New Year in a truly local way. The heart will drop twice, each synced with a live countdown clock visible to all attendees. The first drop will take place at 9:00 PM for families with young children and those who prefer an early celebration. The second drop, of course, will happen at Midnight for those ready to ring in the New Year with a bang! Event Details: Location: The heart will be dropped at the corner of F Street and Sackett Avenue. Street Closures: F Street will be closed to vehicles between Sackett and 1st, and Sackett will be closed between E and F for staging the fire truck and event setup. Pedestrians are invited to enjoy the event in these areas. Parking will be available on the opposite side of the F Street bridge and in other downtown areas. Festivities: The evening will be filled with dance and holiday tunes spun by a DJ from approximately 7:30 PM to Midnight. Dan R. from Heart of the Rockies Radio will emcee the event, bringing extra energy to the celebration. The Salida Starlettes will also perform leading up to both heart drops. Warming Areas and Refreshments: It’s going to be chilly, so there will be warming stations around the event, as well as places to grab hot beverages and tasty food. Downtown businesses will be open late, creating a festive atmosphere for all to enjoy! This celebration is made possible by generous sponsors including High Country Bank (Title Sponsor), Heart of the Rockies Radio (Supporting Sponsor), Monarch (Supporting Sponsor), and Boathouse Cantina/Pizza Rio and Kaleidoscope Toys (Community Sponsors). Mark your calendars and come down to F Street for a heartfelt, homegrown celebration to welcome 2025. It’s an event you won’t want to miss—see you there!
