Business of the Month & Ribbon Cuttings RECAP: April 2024

The Salida Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce The Mixing Bowl as our May Business of the Month!

The Mixing Bowl is a gourmet kitchenware and home store located in historic downtown Salida, in the heart of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. The diverse store provides a “big city” selection of cookware, electrics, colorful table settings, Southwestern flatware, gourmet foods and art gadgets. The Mixing Bowl offers exceptional service, providing gift wrappings services, as well as bridal and personal gift registries.

Star Belmonte was an employee for over 15 years, when Star and her husband John bought the Mixing Bowl in July of 2022. The Mixing Bowl is incredibly involved within the local community, donating to many fundraisers, causes and food banks within the Arkansas River Valley and the San Luis Valley. The gourmet home good store loves to help their community by collecting warm coats, clothing, and blankets throughout the winter, and taking those items to homeless shelters. Star states that they would “never turn anyone away who is hungry, including students who rely on school lunches and may not have lunch over the weekend”. Every Friday and Saturday, The Mixing Bowl offers samples and soup days, where they feed anyone who is hungry with crockpots of soup. The Mixing Bowl also helps the elderly population complete their shopping by making phone orders and delivering gifts and items free of charge.

The Mixing Bowl has several resident artists, and funds from these sales are generously donated to the Pine Ridge reservation, which is near and dear to the store owners’ hearts. On June 1st, there will be Pine Ridge Reservation boxes outside the store for non-perishable food donations. The Mixing Bowl would like to thank their community for all their help with this cause over the past two years. The Mixing Bowl would also like their community to know that they are honored to receive the Business of the Month award, and care deeply about those who make up our wonderful community. Stop by The Mixing Bowl at 148 F St., Suite A, to check out their charming store!

Get to know the new businesses we’re honored to welcome as chamber members this month. Don’t hesitate to reach out and say hello. After all, connection, community and collaboration are what membership in the Salida Chamber of Commerce is all about!

Agile Orthopedics

The Heart of the Rockies Chamber of Commerce welcomed Agile Orthopedics to their membership with a ribbon cutting presentation. Agile Orthopedics is a medical provider of prosthetic and orthotic (P&O) services that offers both office and mobile clinic services for patients who struggle with transportation or mobility and have difficulties getting to an office setting. Agile Orthopedics has been a business in Colorado since 2016 when they opened in the Denver Metro area. From 2020, the company has expanded to provide P&O services to all over the state of Colorado. With their newest office location in the Heart of the Rockies, Agile Orthopedics is excited to serve Chaffee County and provide a valuable service to their community.

As a truly patient-centric practice, Agile Orthopedics’ unique and innovative hybrid model allows them to see patients wherever is most convenient for them. In their years of experience, the experts at Agile Orthopedics realized that access to transportation is not only one of the largest barriers to general healthcare, but is typically the top barrier faced by individuals with disabilities seeking services. Agile Orthopedics is the only mobile prosthetic and orthotic provider in Colorado and accepts most commercial insurances, Medicare, and Medicaid policies.

Agile Orthopedics is also proud to offer Continuing Professional Education for physicians, physician assistants, physical therapists, case managers, and occupational therapists that are interested in areas related to amputation and the most advanced technology to support limb loss.

To set up a consultation with Agile Orthopedics, give them a call at 720-370-3239 or visit their new location at 28350 County Road 317, Unit 8, Buena Vista, CO.

Coffee by Topo

Coffee by Topo was welcomed into the Heart of the Rockies Chamber of Commerce membership with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Coffee by Topo originated with the innovative business model of delivering coffee by bike to the Salida community. In addition to bike delivery, Coffee by Topo has been a town favored stop at famers markets and local events. Owner, Katy Blanton, recently expanded her business to a brick-and-mortar coffee shop and downtown gather space at 211 F St.

With a name like Coffee by Topo, topo being short for topography, Katy has found a niche to serve outdoor enthusiasts with specialty coffee. Coffee by Topo’s extensive menu includes their famed Oat Milk Chai, espresso drinks, nitro cold brews, smoothies, organic cold-pressed juices, pastries, breakfast burritos, and more! As a specialty coffee shop, Coffee by Topo uses higher quality products which typically have more ethical practices in its production, including high wages for the farmers and quality control for the beans. Coffee by Topo fills their coffee shop with vibrant, colorful artwork, and hosts a local artist per season.

Stop by Coffee by Topo at 211 F St, to taste their delicious food and beverage options. Call (719) 530-1055 if you are interested in having Coffee by Topo cater your next event.

Quarterly Nonprofit Recognition: Colorado Farm to Table

In the heart of Colorado lies a beacon of hope for those facing food insecurity. Colorado Farm to Table (CFTT), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has been named the Heart of the Rockies Chamber of Commerce Nonprofit of the Quarter for its remarkable efforts in combating hunger throughout the state.

Since its inception in 2005, CFTT has been dedicated to growing and donating nutritious vegetables to individuals and families in need. Operating from the Shine family farm off of CR 291, CFTT has become a vital part of the community, with hundreds of volunteers and local businesses rallying behind its mission.

Over the years, they have donated nearly 2.8 million pounds of fresh produce, equivalent to approximately 11 million servings, to food-insecure Coloradans. In 2023 alone, 68,282 pounds of vegetables were harvested by 57 local volunteers and distributed through 23 food banks and pantries across the state.

One of the most remarkable aspects of CFTT’s operations is its cost-effectiveness. Through a unique volunteer-driven model, they manage to keep costs low, allowing them to allocate 100% of the produce grown for donation. Generous donations from organizations like the Salida Rotary and the Colorado Grand Car Rally have further supported their efforts, ensuring the continuity and expansion of their vital work.

As the demand for food assistance continues to rise, organizations like CFTT play an indispensable role in alleviating hunger in our communities. With 1 in 10 Coloradan children experiencing food insecurity, their work is more critical than ever.

To support Colorado Farm to Table in their mission to provide fresh produce to those in need, individuals are encouraged to volunteer for morning work shifts on the farm this summer. Together, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of our neighbors facing hunger. For more information on Colorado Farm to Table and their impactful work, visit their website at coloradofarmtotable.org.
