Riverside Park

The 3rd Annual Christmas Mountain 5 Mile Run is scheduled for Friday, November 24 at 10am!  Celebrate Thanksgiving weekend and the lighting of Christmas Mountain with friends and family at a 5 mile and  1 mile race.  Race course is scenic and flat (around 160 feet of elevation gain) and takes place on city and county roads and gravel or concrete pedestrian paths.  This event is designed for all runners, and all ages and abilities are encouraged to come out!  Packet pickup, post race drinks and snacks, and awards will take place in Riverside Park. Registration is currently open.  Prize money will be offered to the top 3 M/F overall, along with the first place M/F masters runner (ages 40+). There will also be a 1 mile run, which will begin at 10:05am, right after the 5 mile race has started.  This is a timed out and back run on Sackett Avenue, and all participants will receive a participant ribbon and post race snacks.  Parents are allowed to run with small children, even if they are not entered in the event. Help us celebrate the 20th anniversary of KHEN with CHICKENSTOCK! The first Chickenstock took place in Riverside Park in 2003, our first year on the air.  We’re bringing it back to our hometown park with a free, day long festival from 12:00-6:30 on Saturday, September 23rd. We’ll have four bands, local food trucks, a kids’ zone and more.   Come celebrate with us as we say thank you to Salida for 20 years of love and support. The Monarch Crest Crank is a mountain bike event along one of IMBA’s Epic mountain bike trails - The Monarch Crest. Join us on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022, in Salida for this historic fundraiser benefiting The Alliance, which helps victims of domestic and sexual abuse. Your entry fee ($95) will include the ride, on-course support, a shuttle to the Crest and back to downtown Salida, and post-ride party at Riverside Park with food and beverage, music and more! (party at Riverside Park may change based on the public health situation in the fall). Please note - we have a 100 rider limit, and in 2021 the event sold out in late August, so register early! We have a "virtual supporter" option too - so if you can't make it to Salida on Sept. 18, you can still help The Alliance and enjoy the vibe of this awesome ride from where ever you may be!

Creatively decorated ducks – sponsored by local businesses and individuals – will once again race down the Arkansas River to cheering spectators who are helping to raise money for Salida Sunrise Rotary’s scholarship fund and celebrating the Salida community. The Lucky Ducky Race, held at Riverside Park, is a key component of Salida Sunrise Rotary’s efforts to raise scholarship funds for local students. The top three winning sponsors of the event’s final races will have scholarships granted in their names during the next school year. These range from $1,000 to $2,000. Come join us Sun., Aug. 28 from 1-4pm for an afternoon of great music and great fun. Learn from area nonprofits who will be on hand to share info about their services while the Salida Circus performs some incredible feats. And of course -- watch those crazy duckies race down the river!

The “Salida Arts Fair” is one of the premier arts destinations in Colorado. Salida was rated #30 in John Villani’s book “The 100 best art towns in America”. After taking 2020 off from life, like everyone, we’re thrilled that our 7th annual Salida Arts Festival will be held in Riverside Park adjacent to the pedestrian mall in downtown Salida. We will be hosting new artists and many of our favorite returning artists with new work. Come join us, it’s going to be Great! Saturday, July 16th, 10-5 and Sunday, July 17th 10-4. See you there. The Arts Fair is run by and for artists. Jerry Scavezze has done shows for over 30 years. He understands the needs of artists and the importance of a show’s location. The new Salida “pedestrian mall” has become wildly popular and the show is right on it. The show will be limited to 80 juried artists. Red Tischer will be playing music both days. Thanks Red!

Join us for a fun family day!  Happenings occurring most of the day in Riverside Park, including the Salida Circus, karaoke, live music, and MORE! The Salida Business Alliance will be hosting the Bike Light Parade starting by 9:00pm.  Meet at the bottom of F Street beforehand to participate.  For additional questions, contact sbasalida@gmail.com.
