Salida Chamber Calendar

The Parent Toolkit for Kids class will be running on Monday nights, 5:30pm-7:30pm, from January 27th-February 24th at the Boys and Girls Club in Salida. This class is designed for parents and caregivers of children ages 9-14, to help them support their kids in making good choices. Some of the topics that will be covered include: The class is free of charge, and dinner will be provided! Free childcare will also be available for children up to age 14. February 5 at 10:15 am ET/ 8:15 am MT, the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce will be holding a hearing where Denver Pipefitters Local 208 Business Manager and Coloradans for Energy Access President Gary Arnold will be testifying. The hearing is titled “Powering America’s Future: Unleashing American Energy” and will discuss expanding domestic energy production and delivery to protect national security, lower costs for consumers, and grow manufacturing and information technology sectors. Bringing the light back to the Paquette Gallery, February’s Creative Mixer and Artists’ Reception presented by the Salida Council for the Arts in partnership with Salida Arts & Culture has a great evening planned! A Salida favorite, “Heirloom”, made up of Bruce Warren, Tom Plant and Andrea Coen, bring their musical vibes to the SteamPlant as you view “Follow the heARTs to Salida” through the images of 30 local artists. As always, you can step up to the mic and let folks know what’s happening during the soapbox announcements.

Starting Feb. 7, Anshor Driving School is offering a 30 hour In Person Drivers Ed Class in Salida! This class meets every Friday from 8am-4pm. Students 14.5 to 17.5 years old can register. Call 719-398-1405 for details or register at anshordriving.com

Every Friday from 9-1 we will be Crafting at A Church! We have some ideas for crafts on hand or if you have a project you need to finish bring it out. We have some supplies for our suggested craft, but for some ideas you might have to bring something.... we suggest reusing what you have..... We can still make the mushroom garland but will be making holiday garland and other paper crafts. If you want to make the mushroom garland bring 6 hollowed out cuties (little oranges) cut in 1/2 and dried. ~Bring old cards or fun paper to make gift tags. ~Bring random yarn for yarn baskets. We also invite yo to sew, cross stitch, felt, etc. Charles will be here to teach basic skills about leatherwork. Lunch is provided by Pizza Rio!

Little Shredders- Roller Skating, Skateboarding and Scooters For Age 7 and Under at Ramps and Alleys Every Friday from 10am-noon, from August 16th-April 25th at Ramps and Alleys, 645 E. Rainbow Blvd. $10 per session.

Join GARNA at Monarch Mountain for a free Ski with a Naturalist Tour. Guest Naturalist: Tommy Skaja with the USFS 11am at the trail map by the cat yurt. The tour is family friendly and takes place on green runs. Tour is free, but a valid lift ticket is required.

Downtown businesses will stay open later for art, demos, live music and refreshments. The host gallery, The Maverick Potter, 148 N. F St., will feature Todd Loubsky on lap steel guitar from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

The City of Salida Arts & Culture Creative District Program presents First Fridays! Join us every first Friday of the month in the Salida Creative District as galleries and creative businesses in Salida’s historic downtown stay open later so you can talk with an artist, watch a demo, or find that perfect piece of art. From painting to sculpture, ceramics, photography, plein air, jewelry, fiber art and more, enjoy a festive evening downtown as you drop into one of Salida’s many businesses to see new art, live music, and light refreshments! Participate in the Palette Card program where you can get a stamp at each business you visit. Redeem your completed card at the host gallery for an art mini while supplies last. First Fridays are free to attend and open to the public.
