Information from 2024: This free event for kids 13 and younger is sponsored by the Collegiate Peaks Chapter of Trout Unlimited and Colorado Parks & Wildlife. Registration begins at Frantz Lake at 8:30 am on July 4th, followed by fishing from 9:45 to 10:45 am. All contestants receive a souvenir derby t-shirt and special prizes will be awarded. Kids should bring their own fishing gear, water, and sunscreen. Fishing equipment will be provided free to participants without their own gear. A free hot dog lunch and sodas will be provided for contestants and their families. More information at www.collegiatepeakstu.org

We have some supplies for our suggested craft, but for some ideas you might have to bring something.... we suggest reusing what you have..... We can still make the mushroom garland but will be making holiday garland and other paper crafts. If you want to make the mushroom garland bring 6 hollowed out cuties (little oranges) cut in 1/2 and dried. ~Bring old cards or fun paper to make gift tags. ~Bring random yarn for yarn baskets. We also invite yo to sew, cross stitch, felt, etc. Charles will be here to teach basic skills about leatherwork. Lunch is provided by Pizza Rio!

Join us at the Steam Plant each month as Salida Arts & Culture presents the monthly art exhibit in the Paquette Gallery and the Salida Council for the Arts hosts a reception and chance to meet other art supporters. Three-Day Rowing Clinic: Build Skills for Class III Whitewater Ready to boost your rafting skills? Our Three-Day Rowing Clinic is designed for beginner and intermediate rafters, with no prior experience necessary. You’ll learn the fundamentals of rowing, water reading & scouting, and river safety as you work up to Class III whitewater. What You’ll Learn: Rowing Technique: Master the basics of rowing and maneuvering your raft, Water Reading & Scouting: Learn how to assess river conditions and navigate safely, River Safety: Build essential rescue skills and understand safety on the water, Class III Rapids: Progressively tackle more challenging whitewater with confidence. With hands-on learning in a fun, supportive environment, you’ll leave with the skills and confidence to safely navigate Class III rapids and enjoy your river adventures to the fullest.
