Every Friday from 9-1 we will be Crafting at A Church! We have some ideas for crafts on hand or if you have a project you need to finish bring it out. We have some supplies for our suggested craft, but for some ideas you might have to bring something.... we suggest reusing what you have..... We can still make the mushroom garland but will be making holiday garland and other paper crafts. If you want to make the mushroom garland bring 6 hollowed out cuties (little oranges) cut in 1/2 and dried. ~Bring old cards or fun paper to make gift tags. ~Bring random yarn for yarn baskets. We also invite yo to sew, cross stitch, felt, etc. Charles will be here to teach basic skills about leatherwork. Lunch is provided by Pizza Rio!

February 5 at 10:15 am ET/ 8:15 am MT, the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce will be holding a hearing where Denver Pipefitters Local 208 Business Manager and Coloradans for Energy Access President Gary Arnold will be testifying. The hearing is titled “Powering America’s Future: Unleashing American Energy” and will discuss expanding domestic energy production and delivery to protect national security, lower costs for consumers, and grow manufacturing and information technology sectors. AIARE 1 - Snowshoe Friday February 07-09, 2025 Do you want to snowshoe in or near avalanche terrain? This class is for students who use snowshoes to travel on snow. AIARE 1 is a three-day / 24-hour introduction to avalanche hazard management. The City of Salida Arts & Culture Department presents a very special evening of inspiration, creativity, and fun at the Steam Plant as we screen the movie THE WILD ROBOT and present very special preshow activities. First, join us at 6pm for fun Make and Take Robot crafts using recycled materials in the Ballroom. Then head into the theater at 7pm to hear a special presentation by local artist Shelby Cox. Hear about his inspiration, process, and see images of some of his favorites plus a Q&A with the artist. Then stay for the movie! THE WILD ROBOT by Universal Studios, Directed by Chris Sanders. After a shipwreck, an intelligent robot called Roz is stranded on an uninhabited island. To survive the harsh environment, Roz bonds with the island's animals and cares for an orphaned baby goose. Starring Lupita Nyong'o, Pedro Pascal, Catherine O'Hara, and Bill Nighy. The film is Rated PG and runs for 101 minutes. Students can expect to develop foundational skills in preparing for and carrying out a backcountry trip, understand basic decision-making while in the field, and learn rescue techniques required to find and dig up a buried person (if an avalanche occurs and someone in the party is caught). AIARE 1 is for ANYONE, regardless of the method of travel, who wants to recreate in or near avalanche terrain. Participants may have attended some awareness classes or workshops or completed an Avalanche Rescue or AIARE Prep course; there are no prerequisites for this course. Every Friday from 9-1 we will be Crafting at A Church! We have some ideas for crafts on hand or if you have a project you need to finish bring it out. We have some supplies for our suggested craft, but for some ideas you might have to bring something.... we suggest reusing what you have..... We can still make the mushroom garland but will be making holiday garland and other paper crafts. If you want to make the mushroom garland bring 6 hollowed out cuties (little oranges) cut in 1/2 and dried. ~Bring old cards or fun paper to make gift tags. ~Bring random yarn for yarn baskets. We also invite yo to sew, cross stitch, felt, etc. Charles will be here to teach basic skills about leatherwork. Lunch is provided by Pizza Rio!

This class is designed for parents and caregivers of children ages 9-14, to help them support their kids in making good choices. Synergy in the Service Industry, a local nonprofit, has teamed up with the Yay Foundation to present Stand Up for Mental Health on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 6:00 PM at A Church in Salida. This exciting event aims to break the stigma surrounding mental health and promote open conversation, featuring comedy performances by local talent alongside Aidan Park, the Yay Foundation’s founder. In the lead-up to the event, the Yay Foundation will host three workshops to help food and beverage workers craft their own 5-minute comedy sets, encouraging vulnerability and connection through humor. The evening will also include a resource fair with local organizations and a drawing to raise funds for mental health sessions, further supporting this vital cause. The cast includes kids from around Chaffee County and Saguache, with a directorial team led by Kyria Stange, the founder of Sventastik. Both shows feature journeys of self discovery, the importance of understanding heritage, courage in the face of adversity and the need to stand up and do what is right. Featuring all the classic songs from both movies, plus exciting new pieces written solely for the musicals, audiences will not be able to help but join in the fun, and find themselves fully immersed in these wonderful stories.
