The next meeting of the coalition will be held on Tuesday, February 18th at 2:00 pm MT. The City of Salida Arts & Culture Department presents a very special evening of inspiration, creativity, and fun at the Steam Plant as we screen the movie THE WILD ROBOT and present very special preshow activities. First, join us at 6pm for fun Make and Take Robot crafts using recycled materials in the Ballroom. Then head into the theater at 7pm to hear a special presentation by local artist Shelby Cox. Hear about his inspiration, process, and see images of some of his favorites plus a Q&A with the artist. Then stay for the movie! THE WILD ROBOT by Universal Studios, Directed by Chris Sanders. After a shipwreck, an intelligent robot called Roz is stranded on an uninhabited island. To survive the harsh environment, Roz bonds with the island's animals and cares for an orphaned baby goose. Starring Lupita Nyong'o, Pedro Pascal, Catherine O'Hara, and Bill Nighy. The film is Rated PG and runs for 101 minutes. Robot crafts begin at 6pm; Shelby Cox talk at 7pm; Then the movie begins immediately afterwards. This event is open to the public. Popcorn, candy, and cash bar available. Salida SteamPlant Annex Salida, CO, United States02/21-23/2025 Every day, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM Steamplant Annex | 220 West Sackett Avenue, Annex is next door to the Steamplant Event Center, Salida, CO, 81201 AIARE 1: Decision Making in Avalanche Terrain AIARE 1 is a three-day / 24-hour introduction to avalanche hazard management. Students can expect to develop foundational skills in preparing for and carrying out a backcountry trip, understand basic decision-making while in the field, and learn rescue techniques required to find and dig up a buried person (if an avalanche occurs and someone in the party is caught). AIARE 1 is for ANYONE, regardless of the method of travel, who wants to recreate in or near avalanche terrain. Participants may have attended some awareness classes or workshops or completed an Avalanche Rescue or AIARE Prep course; there are no prerequisites for this course. Crafting, Sewing and Leatherwork at A Church
A ChurchEvery Friday from 9-1 we will be Crafting at A Church! We have some ideas for crafts on hand or if you have a project you need to finish bring it out. We have some supplies for our suggested craft, but for some ideas you might have to bring something.... we suggest reusing what you have..... We can still make the mushroom garland but will be making holiday garland and other paper crafts. If you want to make the mushroom garland bring 6 hollowed out cuties (little oranges) cut in 1/2 and dried. ~Bring old cards or fun paper to make gift tags. ~Bring random yarn for yarn baskets. We also invite yo to sew, cross stitch, felt, etc. Charles will be here to teach basic skills about leatherwork. Lunch is provided by Pizza Rio!
