Act Against Wildfire open houses help residents prepare
Chaffee County residents are encouraged to be proactive against wildfires by joining forestry professionals and firefighters during a free open house in May. Hosted by members of the Forest Health Council, the events are designed to educate residents about how the county wildfire plan works to decrease fire’s potential devastating impacts to our community and help residents get independently ready. Whether you have questions about creating defensible space around your home, aren’t sure whether your family members are all signed up for emergency notifications, or want to know more about forest treatment projects near you, there is something for everyone to learn. Event hosts include staff from the U.S. Forest Service, Colorado State Forest Service, Salida Fire Department, County Office of Emergency Management, electric utilities and more. Register to win a slash trailer rental from Chaffee Fire valued at $100. Open houses take place on Tuesday, May 6 at the Buena Vista Community Center, and on Thursday May 15 at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds. Both events start at 6 p.m. Attendance is free.
