Parent Toolkit for Kids Class
Boys & Girls Club-SalidaThe Parent Toolkit for Kids class will be running on Monday nights, 5:30pm-7:30pm, from January 27th-February 24th at the Boys and Girls Club in Salida. This class is designed for parents and caregivers of children ages 9-14, to help them support their kids in making good choices. Some of the topics that will be covered include: The class is free of charge, and dinner will be provided! Free childcare will also be available for children up to age 14. House Committee on Energy & Commerce Hearing
February 5 at 10:15 am ET/ 8:15 am MT, the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce will be holding a hearing where Denver Pipefitters Local 208 Business Manager and Coloradans for Energy Access President Gary Arnold will be testifying. The hearing is titled “Powering America’s Future: Unleashing American Energy” and will discuss expanding domestic energy production and delivery to protect national security, lower costs for consumers, and grow manufacturing and information technology sectors. A Salida favorite, “Heirloom”, made up of Bruce Warren, Tom Plant and Andrea Coen, bring their musical vibes to the SteamPlant as you view “Follow the heARTs to Salida” through the images of 30 local artists. As always, you can step up to the mic and let folks know what’s happening during the soapbox announcements.

AIARE 1 - Snowshoe Friday February 07-09, 2025 Do you want to snowshoe in or near avalanche terrain? This class is for students who use snowshoes to travel on snow. AIARE 1 is a three-day / 24-hour introduction to avalanche hazard management. Students can expect to develop a good grounding in how to prepare for and carry out a backcountry trip, to understand basic decision making while in the field, and to learn rescue techniques required to find and dig up a buried person (if an avalanche occurs and someone in the party is caught). www.bvmountainadventures.com/products/aiare-1-snowshoe

Crafting, Sewing and Leatherwork at A Church
A ChurchEvery Friday from 9-1 we will be Crafting at A Church! We have some ideas for crafts on hand or if you have a project you need to finish bring it out. We have some supplies for our suggested craft, but for some ideas you might have to bring something.... we suggest reusing what you have..... We can still make the mushroom garland but will be making holiday garland and other paper crafts. If you want to make the mushroom garland bring 6 hollowed out cuties (little oranges) cut in 1/2 and dried. ~Bring old cards or fun paper to make gift tags. ~Bring random yarn for yarn baskets. We also invite yo to sew, cross stitch, felt, etc. Charles will be here to teach basic skills about leatherwork. Lunch is provided by Pizza Rio!

Join GARNA at Monarch Mountain for a free Ski with a Naturalist Tour. Guest Naturalist: Tommy Skaja with the USFS 11am at the trail map by the cat yurt. The tour is family friendly and takes place on green runs. Tour is free, but a valid lift ticket is required.

Join us every first Friday of the month in the Salida Creative District as galleries and creative businesses in Salida’s historic downtown stay open later so you can talk with an artist, watch a demo, or find that perfect piece of art. From painting to sculpture, ceramics, photography, plein air, jewelry, fiber art and more, enjoy a festive evening downtown as you drop into one of Salida’s many businesses to see new art, live music, and light refreshments! Participate in the Palette Card program where you can get a stamp at each business you visit. Redeem your completed card at the host gallery for an art mini while supplies last. First Fridays are free to attend and open to the public.
