Ark-Valley Humane Society Press Release: Ray Foundation Grants $30,000 to Ark-Valley Humane Society

Ark-Valley Humane Society received a $30,000 grant for animal medical care and expenses from the Ray Foundation.

“We are immensely grateful for this substantial grant funding from the Ray Foundation. Thanks to this generous support, hundreds of cats and dogs will receive life-saving veterinary care this year,” said Executive Director, Nikki Ritter. “Importantly, it will allow us to continue our efforts to fight pet overpopulation through our spay and neuter efforts, and will help to ensure that every animal in our care receives quality medical care, including vaccinations, microchipping, diagnostics, and medications. We are excited for all of the animals that will benefit from this support.”

In 2023, AVHS’s low cost Community Assistance Spay and Neuter Programs for owned pets and feral cats facilitated 264 surgeries. These programs helped 95 owned felines, 26 owned pit bulls, 2 owned other canine breeds belonging to low-income community members, and 141 TNR (Trap, Neuter/Spay, & Return) cats. These surgeries will help manage the overpopulation of unwanted and abandoned litters that contribute to pet homelessness.

The AVHS In-House Spay and Neuter Program facilitated 212 surgeries of shelter animals. This included 69 feline spays, 68 feline neuters, 45 canine spays, and 30 canine neuters. Additionally, 64 animals received other types of necessary surgeries including dental extractions, hernia repairs, and mass removals through this programming.

This generous grant will help us continue to provide quality medical care to shelter animals and offer assistance to community pets in need. We are very thankful to the Ray Foundation.
