UAACOG was formed in 1974 under Federal Legislation and State Executive Order allowing the formation of “regional councils.” There are 14 planning and management regions in Colorado. The purpose of the organization is to provide community services on a regional basis that are not practical or efficient to provide on an individual county or municipal basis. Services have evolved over the years, but the benefits are more important than ever.
Today, UAACOG serves as an umbrella organization providing programs crossing the spectrum of life from infants and children to workforce, housing, business assistance and senior services. UAACOG offers the following service programs: Area Agency on Aging, Housing (including Sec. 8), Self Help and Housing Rehabilitation, Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Programs, Commodities Distribution, Headstart, GED Program, Business Loan Program, Enterprise Zone, Workforce Investment Act (WIA), Recycling, Community Service Block Grants (CSBG) and Transit.
