The Faricy Boys Automotive, a family-owned, Colorado-based automotive dealership group serving Salida, Cañon City and Colorado Springs for 80+ years, is pleased to announce that Lucas Ortiz, a technician who has worked at The Faricy Boys Automotive for more than a year, has been awarded $2,500 tool allowance scholarship from the Clear the Air Foundation.
The Clear the Air Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit affiliate of the Colorado Automobile Dealers Association, is charged with removing high-polluting vehicles from Colorado roads.
Parts from these donated vehicles, mostly from franchised new car dealers, are recycled. The engine and other non-recyclable parts are crushed, never polluting Colorado’s air again. Funds received from recycling these vehicles are used to provide scholarships to students who are pursuing an Automotive Technician career.
“On April 22, we celebrate Earth Day, an ideal time to honor our mission in getting high-polluting vehicles off the road,” states Mark Zeigler, Director, Clear the Air Foundation. “Through this work we not only create cleaner Colorado air but support those interested in a career in automotive.”
Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, it now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally.
“This opportunity will accelerate my career trajectory as an Automotive Technician and help me meet my goals,” states Lucas Ortiz, Automotive Technician, The Faricy Boys Automotive. “This tools scholarship means I can get the job done quickly, efficiently and correctly with my own personal set of tools.”
The Faricy Boys have been leading supporters of the Clear the Air Foundation since its inception, donating over 200 vehicles to the organization. Technicians from its dealerships have earned over $30,000 in scholarships for tools and tuition since 2019.
“A career in automotive is not only time consuming, but also expensive,” states Brent McDuell, Service Manager, The Faricy Boys Automotive. “A tools scholarship is a wonderful incentive to help young technicians stay in the field.”
