There is a New Dog Club in Town
There is a new dog training organization in town. Ouray Working dog club is a multi-disciplinary, multi-organizational dog training club. Ouray Working Dog Club is a competitive training club whose members who train for IPO/schutzhund, mondioring, AKC/UKC competitive obedience, and tracking.
Marsha Boggs, moved to Salida last year and started developing Ouray Working Dog Club within a month of being here. Ouray WDC has held a dozen training seminars in the last year, bringing excellent teaching trainers and workshop attendees to the area, for workshops and seminars, while building up its membership.
Marsha believes we all have something to offer each other no matter which discipline one trains in or their level of expertise. She states, “We are in the process of affiliating with several parent clubs so that we may bring local training and trialing opportunities to our members. We are currently affiliated with American Working Malinois Association, AWMA, and United States Mondioring Association, USMRA. We are in the process of affilitating with the Deutscher Verband der Gebrauchshundsportvereine, DVG (the German Association of Working Dog Sport Clubs). The DVG is a world-wide, all-breed dog training organization. We are holding a 2-day USMRA mondioring trial the weekend of October 15-16, 2016 and hope to have our first IPO trial next spring.
Marsha built the highly successful Endeavor Working Dog Club in New Mexico where she resided before retiring from Los Alamos National Laboratory and moving to Salida in April of 2015. She directed Endeavor for sixteen years. And has bred, raised, trained and competed in a variety of venues with her dogs over the past 30 years.
Ouray Working Dog Club is specializing in competitive dog training in the sports of IPO (aka schtuzhund) mondioring and AKC/UKC, rally, and competitive obedience, but it is not just for working breeds. We also welcome members who just want a well-trained companion animal. At Endeavor we had dogs ranging from mini-dachshund to an English mastiff, both competed successfully. Whether you are a beginning dog handler or an accomplished trainer who desires to further advance your skills, Ouray Working Dog Club is a supportive place to develop or enhance your skills. We have discounted memberships for the remainder of 2016. With that comes unlimited training and a support group to help you achieve your training goals. Ouray meets formally twice a week, on Wednesday afternoons and Sunday mornings.
IPO (aka schutzhund) and Mondioring are all-breed working dog sports that incorporate obedience, scent work (tracking or scent discrimination) and protection in their routines. Dogs may compete in single phases or all phases of the sport. It is open to all-breeds and mixes of dogs. AKC/UKC training is available for obedience and rally. We plan to also offer specialty classes to the public in the future.
