Central Colorado Conservancy’s 2025 Hands For Lands Ditch Cleaning Work Parties
Central Colorado Conservancy’s 2025 Hands For Lands Ditch Cleaning Work Parties Announced CONTACT: Heather Mills, heather@centralcoloradoconservancy.org, 719-539-7700 Salida - Central Colorado Conservancy announces their spring Hands for Lands Ditch Cleaning work parties beginning the second week of April. Each spring, the Hands for Lands volunteer program helps local ranchers and agricultural landowners clean out their ditches in anticipation of the irrigation season. Miles of ditches need to be maintained by trimming overgrown vegetation, raking up debris, clearing tumbleweeds, and removing anything else that has accumulated over the winter and might impede the flow of water once irrigation season starts. By pitching in with our many hands we help lighten the workload and support local ranches and agriculturalists which provide so much to our community including wildlife habitat, scenic vistas, aquifer recharge, and local food. Irrigation is imperative for ranchers and agriculture in our area, and the benefits ripple out from there. Spreading water out across the land creates valuable wetlands and wildlife habitat, recharges aquifers and adds to the green landscape that makes springtime in the valley so beautiful! The April ditch cleaning schedule is as follows: Cooper Property: Saturday, April 12, Salida Hutchinson Ranch: Wednesday-Thursday, April 16-17, Poncha Springs Frenchman’s Creek Ranch: Wednesday, April 23, Buena Vista Kelly Ranch: Saturday-Sunday, April 26-27, Buena Vista Come out and enjoy some incredible scenery, fresh air and exercise on some beautiful and iconic ranches in the valley. For more information or to sign up to volunteer for the ditch cleaning work parties, please visit https://www.centralcoloradoconservancy.org/handsforlands or contact Heather Mills, Central Colorado Conservancy’s Agriculture Program Manager, at 719-539-7700 or heather@centralcoloradoconservancy.org.

City of Salida Invites Community to Land Use Code and Zoning Map Meeting
City of Salida Invites Community to Land Use Code and Zoning Map Meeting
The City of Salida invites residents, business owners, developers, and other stakeholders to a public meeting introducing the consolidated draft Land Use Code and new draft Zoning Map on Tuesday, April 22nd from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the SteamPlant Event Center. Refreshments and light snacks will be provided. Salida has not undergone a comprehensive rewrite of its Land Use Code in nearly 15 years. The community has obviously seen significant changes since then, and it is time for an update. The draft Land Use Code and Zoning Map are built on the foundation of the Future Land Use Mapping process completed in 2022 and 2023. Together, they implement key elements of Salida’s Comprehensive Plan, shaping how the community will grow and develop in the years to come—guiding both opportunities and limitations. “This is just the beginning of the next chapter of public feedback,” said Bill Almquist, Director of Community Development for the City of Salida. “We want the community to understand what’s proposed, why it matters, and how to stay engaged.” Meeting Highlights: Overview of the consolidated draft Land Use Code and proposed Zoning Map Explanation of how the documents align with Salida’s Comprehensive Plan Opportunity for Q&A and initial public input Details on upcoming opportunities for more detailed feedback Recording of the presentation will be available on the City’s website after the event The final draft is expected to move forward for Planning Commission and City Council consideration later this summer. Public input will continue to play a critical role throughout that process. The draft Land Use Code and proposed Zoning Map will be available on the website prior to the meeting at: www.cityofsalida.com/commdev
