LWVCC Drinks & Dialogue – The Chilling Realities of Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is an illicit industry that is hidden in plain sight, operating every day in our Chaffee communities and across this country. Perpetrators of this crime exploit others for labor and services, not limited to commercial sex. Perpetrators use force, fraud, and coercion to enrich themselves by undermining basic human freedoms.

While residents may not see evidence of these human rights abuses, key law enforcement is at work to uncover and bring traffickers to justice, and advocates are working to strengthen laws and ensure recovery and opportunities for individuals once they are out of that situation.

All are invited to join an enlightening panel discussion with key advocates Beth Ritchie and John DiGirolamo from Bringing Our Valley Hope, law enforcement experts Buena Vista Police Chief Dean Morgan and Chaffee County Sheriff Andy Rohrich, and legal expert M. Christina Floyd. They all can help us learn about human trafficking in our community. Questions and answers will follow the short film and presentation. To help ensure as many topics as possible are discussed, please consider submitting your questions by November 9 to lwvchaffee@gmail.com.

This Drinks & Dialogue event will be on Thursday, November 12 from 6:30 to 8 pm at the Poncha Springs Town Hall, 333 Burnett Ave, Poncha Springs.  Doors open at 6 pm with snacks and mocktails.  The program will start promptly at 6:30.

The public is invited to join the League of Women Voters of Chaffee County to discuss more about this community issue.

A video of the forum will be available at the lwvchaffeecounty.org website under the Video tab following the event.

The League of Women Voters of Chaffee County’s mission is to educate and empower voters through candidate forums and presentations on topics that impact the county’s residents.  LWVCC also works to defend democracy through careful study and advocacy of issues.
