Join us for Trailhead Tuesday on January 06th from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at The Trailhead gear store, 402 East Main Street in Buena Vista, Colorado. This event is well-attended, so bring your own camp chair and consider coming early to grab food and a drink from Simple Eatery next door. This free event builds skills, sparks conversation, and connects people who love the mountains. This month's topic is managing uncertainty in the snowpack. We'll dig into the 9 different avalanche problems and how to observe, interpret, and manage them while touring. Topics include an overview of layered mountain snowpack formation, identifying avalanche problems, and weighing evidence versus uncertainty to make better choices in the field. The event is open to all winter backcountry travelers, whether you're on skis, splitboard, snowmobile, cross country skis, or snowshoes. Connect with other mountain people, ask questions, and deepen your understanding of the snowpack.

We would all like to believe that people around us don’t experience personal violence, but the reality of what’s happening in our community is much different. To better understand what can be done for the 37% of women and 31% of men in Colorado who have experienced violent acts by an intimate partner, come hear from local experts working with The Alliance in Salida about what some friends and neighbors are facing. The discussion will include guidance on how to help, and the impact the new federal funding and policies has on this work. All are invited and welcome to attend. Doors 6:30 PM Music 7:00 PM Tix $20 You may have seen George Jackson when we hosted the Tall Poppy String Band in the spring of 2023. He is a brilliant fiddler and will team with Brad Kolodner, one of the premiere clawhammer banjo players around. Their debut album Shady Lane landed at #4 on the Billboard Bluegrass Charts (though their style is more old-timey and laid back compared to bluegrass). Sprinkle in harmony singing, twin fiddles and double banjo duets and their live performances are eclectic, dynamic and full of groove. Bluegrass Today writes, “This accomplished duo really makes the sparks fly...Jackson and Kolodner make this old-timey music sound new all over again.”
