CUSTOMER APPRECIATION FOR JULY AND AUGUST! For the months July and August we will be offering our Raft & Swim discount. Bring in your receipt within 1 week of a guided raft trip with ANY Arkansas Valley raft company for $2 off adult/$1 off regular youth daily admission.

 

COMMUNITY DISC GOLF! Join Salida Recreation and TOPS Disc Golf Club in learning and playing disc golf with your friends and family. These will be progressive events tailored for families, starting with rules and basics of the game and ending with an official round or small competition. Bringing your own equipment is encouraged; but we will have some discs available. Mondays July 10 & August 7, 6:30pm, Poncha Springs Disc Golf Course, CR 115 just off Hwy 285, Cost: $3/person drop-in fee, no preregistration required.

 

JULY IS PARKS AND RECREATION MONTH! Salida Recreation is celebrating Parks and Recreation Month in July! Join us for FREE drop-in “Learn to Play” Socials three Tuesdays in July at Centennial Park from 6-7pm. We’ll bring the games and treats and you bring your friends and family for a fun evening in the park. July 11 we will play Pickleball, July 18 we will play Volleyball and July 25 we will play assorted lawn games (croquet, badminton, cornhole and more).

 

BASKETBALL AND VOLLEYBALL CAMPS! Join Salida Recreation this summer for 3-day youth sport camps. These camps are intended to introduce children to the sports of basketball and volleyball.  No experience necessary.  Coached instruction will be provided along with fun games and real-time game scenarios.  Please bring comfortable clothes and water.  Co-ed Basketball for entering grades 2-6, Monday, July 10 through Wednesday, July 12 from 2-4pm at Centennial Park outdoor courts. Girls Volleyball with coaches Janine Frazee and Cassie Baldauf for entering grades 2-6, Monday, July 24 through Wednesday, July 26, 12-2pm at Salida Middle School. Cost $35 per 3-day camp.

 

YOUTH TENNIS CLINICS! Join Salida Recreation this summer for this 4 day tennis clinic aimed at introducing youth to the sport of tennis including basic strokes and hand-eye coordination skills. These drills will benefit those who are just learning, as well as those who have played before. Coached instruction will be provided along with fun games and real-time game scenarios. Please bring comfortable clothes and water. Snack will be provided. Some equipment provided, but bring your own racket if you have one. Monday through Thursday, July 17-20, Ages 7 to 9, 2-3pm; Ages 10 to 12, 3:15-4:15pm at the Salida Middle School Tennis Courts, Cost: $30.

GIRLS FUNDAMENTALS OF VOLLEYBALL SKILLS CAMP!  Participants will learn the basic skills necessary to play volleyball such as the serve, pass, set, and hit.  Participants will need to wear shorts, t-shirt, tennis shoes, and knee pads. Please bring water. Camp is for girls entering grades 2-6, Monday, July 24 through Wednesday, July 26, 12-2pm at Salida Middle School. Cost: $35. Coaches: Janine Frazee and Cassie Baldauf.

 

CAPTAIN ZIPLINE ROPES COURSE FIELD TRIP!  The Canyon Aerial Ropes Course complex is an amazing structure in Lost Canyon that consists of interconnected “elements” up in the air. Elements such as swinging bridges, swinging logs, cargo nets, balance beams and tunnels pose challenges while developing skills and building confidence. A “Smart Belay” system keeps the participant clipped to the safety cable at all times. Bring snacks, water, sunscreen and layered clothing. Wednesday, July 19, 8am-noon. Drop-off & pick-up at Aquatic Center. Cost: $49/person; Ages: 8+

 

FUNCTIONAL INSPIRED KETTLEBELL TRAINING!  Basics of kettlebell strength training with an emphasis on safety, proper technique and form. Functional training is developing the movements of everyday life so we can ace the movements that we necessitate or desire.  This class includes warm up, strength, cardio, stretching and cool down.  Certified instructor, Kristina Pesch. Wednesdays & Fridays, beginning June 7, 8-9am, Centennial Park, $10 drop-in fee, no pre-registration required.

 

LINE DANCING! Learn the steps, feel the music and practice to the beat! Betty Scofield will be back again to teach this terrific class. Betty specializes in showing a wide range of people with varying ability levels how to have fun on the dance floor. No matter when you start, or at what level, you’ll catch up in no time. This is a great opportunity to get out and move to music while getting exercise at the same time. No partner required.  Wednesdays, 11am-noon through September 20 at the Community Center, upstairs. BODY WEIGHT BOOT CAMP! Bodyweight training is functional fitness at its finest. It is a convenient way to improve balance, strength, heart health, boost positive mood and cognitive function. Take advantage of the new circuit fitness equipment in the park that includes a push-up/dip station, a sit up bench, double pull-up bars and more. Certified instructor, Kristina Pesch.  Saturdays, June 3-July 29, 7-8am, Centennial Park, $10 drop-in fee, no preregistration required.

 

“BRING ON THE NIGHT” STRETCH SESSIONS! Take advantage of the calm evening weather and work on lengthening and toning from head to toe. Possible side effects may include a good night’s sleep and relaxation. Flexible muscles are less prone to injury, experience less stiffness which can lead to pain, improve balance and range of motion. Certified instructor, Kristina Pesch. Monday and Wednesday evenings beginning June 5, 7-8pm, Centennial Park, $10 drop-in fee, no pre-registration required.

 

SUMMER GROUP SWIM LESSONS CONTINUE!  There is still time to get into some summer swim lessons at the Salida Hot Springs Aquatic Center.  We have two sessions left: Session 4 begins Monday, July 17 and Session 5 begins Monday, July 31. All sessions are Monday through Thursday for 45 minutes, 8 lessons per session. Register for the 10 am or 11 am start time. Preschool level (ages 4 & 5)  through Level 4 (ages 6+) offered at every session and time. Register by the Friday before the session begins: $50/session of 8 lessons. Registrations after that: $55/session of 8 lessons. Scholarships available. Please call or come by the aquatic center to register. Payment must be received at time of registration.  No drop-ins accepted.
