April 7, 2024 — To help landowners create defensible space around their homes, Chaffee Chips will coordinate free neighborhood slash removal and chipping services in several geographic areas this year.
The countywide fire mitigation program reduces the threat of wildfire by helping homeowners remove potential fire fuels. Property owners in the service areas are asked to cut and clear brush and trees before the event and pile them at their curbs.
Chaffee, Custer, Fremont and Park counties collaborate on an awareness campaign to dispel stigma and promote recovery from addiction while reducing the tragic toll of fentanyl and other opioids.
“Recovery starts when stigma ends.”
That’s the message of a new local public awareness campaign created to dispel stigma around addiction, including opioid use disorder, and to inspire the community to rise together to meet the challenge of this devastating epidemic.

If you or someone you know has a housing unit that is generally empty or generally hosts out-of-town visitors, the Chaffee Housing Authority would happily match your home with members of the local workforce who are unable to find rental homes in this unprecedented rental market. April 3, 2024 — The Chaffee Rec Adopters program addresses fast-paced growth of outdoor visitation through community volunteerism. Now in its third summer, program volunteers have given close to 2,000 hours of volunteer time through dispersed campsite clean ups, barbed wire fence removal, wetlands restoration, public land monitoring and dispersed campsite installation.
A collaboration of individuals, organizations and land agencies, the Chaffee Rec Adopters announce its events calendar for 2024. Projects include dispersed campsite installation with the Bureau of Land Management, barbed wire fencing removal to improve wildlife habitat, dispersed campsite cleanup, continued restoration on Fourmile Creek and monitoring with the Chaffee Rec Collector App.

LAKE GEORGE, Colo., March 15, 2024 – The South Park Ranger District on the Pike-San Isabel National Forests & Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands will implement the Cougar Divide Fuels Reduction Project in support of the United States Department of Agriculture, Forest Service 10-year Wildfire Crisis Strategy. The specific area of this project is approximately 230 acres of National Forest lands along Forest Road 223 west of County Road 77, about seven miles north of Lake George in Park County, Colorado. The project is scheduled to begin the week of March 18 and is expected to last approximately two months.

With the goal of helping sustain this beloved event for our community, the Salida Arts & Culture Creative District will serve as lead coordinator for ArtWalk 2024. In addition, the date for the three-day festival is moving to October 11, 12, and 13.
Community Gardens are spaces to cultivate an appreciation for local food, gardening techniques, health, and creativity in our community.
Three sites are available in Salida for folks who may not have access to growing spaces but want the opportunity to gather with others, learn gardening skills, and enjoy the benefits of growing their food while being supported with the infrastructure, tools, and support that they may not otherwise be able to access.
Salida Council for the Arts will award scholarships to two outstanding, college-bound Salida-area students in the amount of $1,000 each. Those who are eligible are students attending Salida High School, as well as students in non-traditional programs or home-schooled students who plan to pursue studies in a creative discipline as a full-time student at an accredited college or institution. Creative disciplines may include, but are not limited to: Architecture, Design, Fine Arts, Multimedia, Writing, Communication, Performing Arts, Culinary Arts.

The program, Dad’s Car Seat Program, will provide a new car seat for children, infants to one year of age. Administration, announced Associate Administrator Francisco Sánchez of SBA’s Office of Disaster Recovery & Resilience. These loans offset economic losses because of reduced revenues caused by drought in the following primary counties that began Oct. 3.
The deadline to apply for economic injury is Aug. 5, 2024.
