Monarch Mountain

Monarch is “Salida’s Hometown Mountain” and one of the area’s best kept secrets. The ski area depends on all-natural, Rocky Mountain snow, and with 350 inches of average snowfall each year, the mountain consistently ranks top in the state for storm totals. Monarch has one of the highest elevation base areas in ski country at 10,790 feet. The area’s vertical tops out at 11,960 feet on the Continental Divide. This mountain skis big, with 800 acres of in-bound and hike-to terrain that includes everything from groomers, to tree skiing and steeps. Looking for a more extreme experience? Try Monarch Cat Skiing’s 1,000 plus acres of backcountry terrain. New for 2018 Monarch opened a tubing hill for guests. Monarch is usually open from November to April, weather permitting.
