Roxy's Bottle Shop is the March 2010 Business of the Month

Roxy’s Bottle Shop was named the February Heart of the Rockies Chamber of Commerce Business of the Month Friday during a presentation at the store on U.S. 50 in Salida.

Roxanne and Greg Amidon own the store and thanked their local customers for years of support.

“We see a lot of the public in the nature of how we do business,” Greg Amidon said. “We appreciate all the tourism business from events like FIBArk, the Fourth of July and Art Walk, but having a backbone of local customers allows us to succeed.”

The store employs four people full time and has been a chamber members eight years.

“Greg and Roxy have been in business more than 12 years and are successful because of their tireless work ethic,” chamber director John Engelbrecht said.

“Not only have they contributed to economic vitality of our community, they have given back to Salida every day.”

The Amidons said they volunteer time to the community through “extra curricular” projects.

Engelbrecht acknowledged Roxanne’s support to Salida SteamPlant and Greg’s volunteering efforts with the City of Salida that “set them apart as people who can get things done.”

New Chamber Member for March 2010 - Sherry Turner

For Sherry Turner, new member of the Salida Chamber, 2010 marks 20 years in the insurance industry marked with breaks to have her three children.

As an independent AFLAC Associate, Turner said she is here to help business owners and individuals make affordable benefits a reality. She said AFLAC is not a major medical insurance company.

It is the No. 1 voluntary supplemental health insurance company in America, she said, adding there are more than 40 million people worldwide who utilize AFLAC benefits.

What’s nice about AFLAC, she said, is the cash benefits are paid directly to the insureds so they can use it exactly as they need.

Three things happen to a family when there is an illness or an accident, Turner said. First, there are out-of-pocket medical expenses. It doesn't matter how good their major medical is, it doesn't cover 100 percent of those costs.

Second, the bills keep coming in – daily living expenses, groceries, utilities, car payments, rent or mortgage. Third, there’s lost income at a time when there are more bills coming in than ever before.

Business owners may offer AFLAC to employees at no cost to the business. It requires no coordination of benefits, fills the gap of major medical or provides benefits when there are no benefits.

Claims are paid within four days of receipt by the home office and Turner said she is available to guide and assist clients through the process. Ease of administration makes the program user friendly, she said.

Sherry encourages business owners to let her show how they can enhance a benefits package, attract and retain employees, and reduce the matching FICA they pay.

She encourages individuals to let her demonstrate how affordable AFLAC is for them and their family. Turner said she has filed many claims for her clients who told her if it wasn't for AFLAC they wouldn't know what they would have done.

From accidents, sickness, cancer, vision, dental to short term disability and more, AFLAC has something for everyone she said.

Turner can be reached at 221-1116 or by e-mail at sherry_turner@us.aflac.com.
