Established in 1885 as the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad Hospital, the medical center has undergone several changes in ownership over the years. It is now part of a public hospital district encompassing Chaffee, western Fremont and northern Saguache counties. In 2008, HRRMC moved into a new state-of-the-art facility one mile west of its original location.
