The Hutchinson Ranch, established in 1868, is one of the oldest continuously operating cattle ranches in the Upper Arkansas River Valley. It was honored as a Centennial Ranch by the State of Colorado in 1986. The Homestead house itself, built in 1873-74, was listed in the National Registry of Historic Places in 1973.

Dr. Wendell Hutchinson is the fourth generation and still lives and works on this ranch that straddles the South (“Little”) Arkansas River and U.S. Highway 50, and runs from Poncha Springs almost to the city limits of Salida. The Hutchinson Homestead site is over two acres of land that includes the family home and ranch headquarters. Dr. Hutchinson has donated this site to the Town of Poncha Springs for preservation as a Museum and Cultural Center. Join our effort to restore and preserve this important piece of ranching history by sending your contribution to the non-profit Salida-area Parks, Open Space and Trails (SPOT), PO Box 748, Salida, Co 81201. Your contribution is tax-deductible.
