Salida Colorado Events for July

We are now updating and scheduling our events for 2008.
4 ~
Fourth of July Celebration; Wholesome
games in Riverside Park in downtown Salida, 1-3 p.m.; sponsored
by Salida Recreation. Parade on F Street at 4 p.m.; fireworks from
Tenderfoot Mountain at dusk.
4 ~ Trout
Unlimited's July 4th Kid's Fishing Derby. Franzhurst Lake
- registration from 8am until 9am. Derby Fishing 9-11am. Food &
Prizes at 11am. A fishing derby for children 0 thru 13 years fo
age. Contestants provide own equipment and bait. Hot dogs, chips
and soft drinks served to contestants and parents. Sponsored by:
Collegiate Peaks Anglers Chapter Trout Unlimited & Colorado
Division of Wildlife.

Annual Colorado Brewers Rendezvous; 1-5 p.m., Riverside Park,
downtown Salida. Brewers from around the state offer their best.

(Monday) Salida Aspen Concert:
David Halen (violin) and Darrett Adkins (cello) and a pianist (TBA)
will perform Maurice Ravel's piano trio at 7:30 p.m. at John Held
Auditorium, Salida High School, 10th and D Streets, Salida CO.
Violinist David Halen, concertmaster of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra
and solo cellist Darrett Adkins along with a pianist from the Aspen
Music Festival and School will perform Maurice Ravel's famous piano
trio among other classics. Halen (www2.mercer.edu/Music/davidhalen.htm)
serves on the faculty at the Aspen Music Festival and is visiting
artist at Yale University and artistic director of the Innsbrook
Institute. Adkins (http://www.darrettadkins.com/) has been called
"stunning" "heroic" and "Fiery" for
his interpretations in almost every musical genre from the classics

Salida Aspen Concert:
Joyce Yang, pianist, will perform as soloist and will play chamber
music with friends and students from Aspen Music Festival at 7:30
p.m. at John Held Auditorium, Salida High School, 10th and D Streets,
Salida CO.
Since winning the 2005 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition
at the age of 19 years old, Joyce Yang has been on a world tour
of the great concert halls. Last year she played with the symphonies
of Colorado, Colorado Springs, Houston, Fort Worth, Indianapolis
and Orlando and held recitals throughout North America and Europe.
In Salida, she enchanted the audience at the opening concert of
the 2007 Salida Aspen Concert season. A native of the Republic of
Korea, Joyce Yang's music can be heard at myspace.com/joyceyang

Aspen Concert: The Sybarite Chamber Players—(string
quintet) at 7:30 p.m. at Valley Fellowship Church, 608 South San
Juan Street, in Buena Vista, Colorado.
The Sybarite Chamber Players got their start in 1997 playing on
a street corner in Aspen during the Aspen Music Festival and now
are devoted to educating and expanding the repertoire for string
quintet. They performed in Salida during the 2002 Salida Aspen Concerts
series. Currently they are commissioning, performing and recording
classical works inspired and influenced by Radiohead (www.sybarite5.org).
This group of young artists is considered one of the most versatile
ensembles of its kind and a driving force paralleled by few. Tickets

Growing Green
Visit several home greenhouses to see types of greenhouse construction
and ways that gardeners design their growing beds and learn how
they decide on the types of plants to grow. Visit includes free-standing
geodesic domes, an attached lean-to greenhouse and possibly others.
Coordinator is Denny Arter, GARNA board member and greenhouse owner.

Aspen Concert: Aspen Contemporary Ensemble and Syd Hodkinson—
at 7:30 p.m. at John Held Auditorium, Salida High School, 10th and
D Streets, Salida CO.
The Aspen Contemporary Ensemble (flute, clarinet, violin, cello,
piano and percussion) will perform a program of mixed eras–not
just contemporary–directed by composer-conductor Syd Hodkinson,
a jazz musician who then studied classical music at the Eastman
