Salida's
historic downtown has many unique art galleries, jewelry shops,
working artist studios and gift & antique shops. Built in 1892,
the Salida Steam Plant served as one of the city's first electrical
generating stations. Today, the Steam Plant generates a new kind
power, with the performing arts. A variety of performances continue
throughout the spring and summer season. The Salida
Art Walk is one of the city's premier weekend art events.
The Art Walk (see events
calendar for dates) encompasses more than 40 galleries and venues
showcasing all the local artists and the performing arts, as well
as artist's receptions. This is a downtown art celebration!
Salida Concerts, Inc. and the Aspen Music
Festival have teamed up to bring top-notch classical music to Salida
for a series of six concerts, beginning in July (see
events calendar for dates). Several local businesses, as well
as the Chaffee County Council on the Arts, Art of the Rockies and
other galleries feature live entertainment and other great art events
throughout the year.
