The Hodgepodge earned Business of the Month honors for September after a group of its peers voted for the store to receive the honor.
Lori Roberts, Heart of the Rockies Chamber of Commerce executive director, presented a plaque to the business, which it will display until the end of the month.
Roberts said The Hodgepodge received the honor in part because of the amount the business donates and helps out in the community.
“You guys have done so much with your customer service and letting all these crafters be part of your lives,” Roberts said. “You give back to a lot of local activities and sponsors including the Fiber Festival, Boys & Girls Club, Pregnancy Resource Center, Planned Parenthood, Bluegrass on the Arkansas, KHEN and so many other things.”
Sandi Lacey said The Hodgepodge opened about five years ago and recently celebrated its first year at its new location at 1548 G St.
Lacey said she was grateful to those who nominated the business for the honor and remembered when the business first began.
“Some of the Vaqueros here were at our first ribbon cutting at the little cottage at The Hodgepodge when we first started five years ago,” Lacey said. “Now we’re all grown up and in a big store and have a whole fabric store for the community, which is something that’s been a wonderful addition for the community as well as ourselves.”
Lacey said the store was an idea she and her daughter, Joi Santa Cruz, had 20 years ago.
Having a store where they could share snacks and ideas with people similar to them was part of the dream.
“It validates what we’re doing,” Lacey said. “We’re elated if somebody buys a $5 card. That means we can go out and spend $100 on paper. It’s cyclical energy. I get to be here every day with my daughter, working with fabric, and how good is that? We spend a lot of time together and we like each other.”
The Hodgepodge opens at 11 a.m. Monday-Saturday. You can also visit The Hodgepodge on Facebook.
