Heart of the Rockies Chamber of Commerce honored Howl Mercantile and Coffee, 130 W. First St., Friday as January Business of the Month.
Part of the chamber’s criteria for being nominated for the honor is to “support other entities and individuals through volunteerism, sponsorships and community spirit.”
Owned by Kimi Uno and Alex Secor, the business carries items from small-batch makers and local artisans and artists.
The business’s commitment to community-building includes supporting several organizations through donations, fundraising and events, including Planned Parenthood, Sellars Project Space/Partnership for Community Action, Outdoor Alliance, Boys & Girls Clubs and The Alliance.
Howl also sponsored the Pride Parade held in June.
The shop has held several live music events and workshops and during the holidays hosted a series of days when volunteers from Planned Parenthood, Sellars Project Space and Boys & Girls Clubs wrapped presents for donations. Uno said they plan to make the gift-wrapping event a tradition.
