Heart of the Rockies Chamber of Commerce awarded Captain Zipline its Business of the Month honors for August.
Monty Holmes, owner of Captain Zipline, provides several opportunities for entertainment to different groups, including the Salida High School freshman class, various Salida High School sports teams, Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area for team building, Monarch Mountain Ski Patrol and numerous others.
Holmes also said the company has donated trips for Chaffee County Mentors, Alliance Against Domestic Abuse and Monarch Crest Crank.
“Basically we will donate something to any Chaffee County nonprofit,” Holmes said. “We usually do not donate to out-of-area nonprofits as we want to support local organizations.”
Lori Roberts, chamber executive director, said those adventures or recreational activities at no cost and giving back were among the reasons Captain Zipline earned the honor.
“You give to the kids at the high school, you give the (Monarch) ski patrollers free workouts for preseason, Ark-Valley High Rollers and several (high school) sports teams,” Roberts said. “But more than that, you’re a destination point for something we didn’t have. You’re the first zipline tour in Colorado and the third in the U.S.”
Holmes said one thing he is most proud of is “securing and publishing salida.com in 1994 when there were only 30,000 computers worldwide.”
Along with the accomplishment of Salida.com, Holmes is pleased with the way the chamber of commerce continues to help with Captain Zipline’s endeavors.
“Although my motto has always been ‘do it yourself, work eight days a week and you’ll get lucky,’ with the chamber of commerce behind me, we’ve climbed mountains, and I don’t mean the fourteeners,” Holmes said.
